JWM Team USA 2013

RCJA is proud to be a sponsor of the USA Team competing in the 2013 JWM competition!

In previous years I have been a competitor, the level of craftsmanship and piloting skills seen at this event is amazing! I wish the team the best of luck!

To help the team further, I have setup a Donation link to allow RCJA members to make personal donations to the team. Jason Bauer, the team Captain will distribute and use the donations appropriately to cover travel and team expenses related to the competition. I know from traveling to Hungary and Northern Ireland how the expenses continue to add up.

Notes to the Group

Team Members:

Please use the discussion forum below to document your progress as you prepare for the competition next summer. I would like each of you to make your own discussion about your project. Give us a little information about you as well. This will be something that members will follow, and will go down in history so we can look back ten years from now and laugh!

Get to work, let me know if you have questions!

It has been recommended that the Registration cutoff date for the Qualifier be changed from July 30, 2014 to June 15, 2014. This change will permit ample advance time for competitors, callers, judges, family members, airport staff, etc. to plan their vacation time & budgets. The earlier date should also aid in the attraction of potential Sponsors. This consideration has been reviewed and approved by our Ad Hoc Committee so the Registration Form & entry fee submittals must be post marked no later than June 15th. The new rule regarding the maximum number of team members per Country is 8 however 2 of the 8 must be JWM Rookies. Rookies will & I quote from Philip Avonds the IJMC Technical Advisor: “The rookies have exactly the same rights as any other competitor. In other words, they are eligible for inclusion in all classifications.” We will therefore be conducting a US Team Qualifier if the number of applicants having previously competed in the JWM is 7 or more not counting possible Rookies. Should a qualifier become necessary a Rookie(s) desiring to be a team member must enter the Qualifier. Once the 2015 Team is established they will again elect a Team Manager, Team Captain as well as any additional team members, if necessary, up to a total of 8 assuming 2 of the 8 are Rookies.

Well hard to believe but today is Friday and only one more round left. Jason and Andy will fly today, then me and David tomorrow. Looking like today's weather will be the best so far. Sun is shining. Last night we attended Swiss night which was at around 6000 ft. Great food and a good time was had by all. My phone died so hope somebody will share their pics. Haven't made it to airport yet but as Jim said looks like the fiat has been DQ'ed for documentation issues. Sad this happened but can't tolerate cheating. Will be interesting to see how rest of event goes down. Heading out for breakfast,a hike, team photos and will cheer on Jason and Andy today! Go Team USA

I forgot to mention that the opening ceremonies were very well done.  All the teams came in to a drum core that was really good.  Opening remarks were given by Winnie, the head Swiss organizer, by the commander of the entire Swiss Air force, and the Base Commander.  We then enjoyed a great airshow by one of the Swiss airshow teams.  With the mountains often behind them while performing maneuvers, it's really unique.  This photo here is me being quite lucky on catching this precise moment.... you'll notice one of  these planes is not like the others....  :)
